The Best of Italian Food

We at Recipe Finder love Italian food- just like gazillions of people in the world. Italian cuisine is simply so vast and rich that you can keep writing, cooking, and tasting and not lack for recipes and ideas. From pasta to pizza to soups to desserts – there is at least one Italian dish that will surely capture your heart.

Pizza Margherita

Pizza Margherita

I have recently discovered what might very well be the best Italian restaurant in my neck of the woods. Casa Nostra is its name, and the dishes they serve really made my jaw drop and my belly expand. I would gladly eat there regularly if that were possible, but of course, there is always the option of making great Italian food at home. That experience has led me, once again, to obsess about Italian food. The result is this – the top 10 Italian food in the world. You may or may not agree with my list. Feel free to share your thoughts!

Minestrone with Endive and Pepperoni

Minestrone with Endive and Pepperoni

Minestrone is one of the best ways to start a meal – Italian or not. The name of this soup comes from two Italian words: minestra, which means soup, and -one, which is a suffix meaning big. Hence, minestrone means “the big soup”, or the soup with many ingredients. And indeed, minestrone has a lot of ingredients, all of which contribute to the goodness that the soup is.

There are many different ways to make minestrone today, especially with countless cooks trying their hand at making their own versions. If you really like it hearty, I suggest this Minestrone with Endive and Pepperoni recipe.

For vegetarians, there are also minestrone recipes that will suit your preferences. Try this Vegetable Minestrone Soup or this Barley Minestrone recipe.

Italian Fish Soup

Zuppa di Pesce

Zuppa di Pesce

Seafood lovers will definitely give an arm and a leg for a bowl of good Italian Fish Soup. Just like with minestrone, Italian Fish Soup has different versions. You will normally hear/read about Zuppa di Pesce, which is the literal translation of fish soup. This is the traditional Italian Fish Soup. Here’s an easy recipe for Zuppa di Pesce, which calls for cod or haddock. If you prefer another kind of fish, the recipe will work with any other kind of white fish.

There is this version of Zuppa di Pesce that was created in San Francisco. Called Cioppino, this version was invented by Italian fishermen who had settled in the city. As can be expected, they yearned for their native Zuppa di Pesce, and they recreated the original to come up with something just as fantastic. Maybe even better. Here’s a simple recipe for Cioppino.

Alternative recipes: Spicy Cioppino (this calls for tilapia fillet, which is easier on the pocket), Bodega Bay Cioppino, and Quick and Easy Cioppino.

Lasagna Formaggio

Lasagna Formaggio

Also called lasagne, this pasta is said to originate from Greece. Lasagna can be made in various ways, and even within Italy, many variations exist. If you eat lasagna in the northern part of the country, the chances are that you will have all the Bechamel sauce that you want. If you eat lasagna in the southern part of Italy, the sauce will probably be simpler – with tomatoes and ragu.

I love lasagna with lots of meat, but this Lasagna Formaggio makes up for the lack of meat with the cheese. Mouthwatering is an understatement.

Now for meat lovers like me, I think this Homemade Lasagna recipe will do the trick over and over and over again.

Other lasagna variations:

Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti is so common that many of us probably take it for granted. The classic Spaghetti Bolognese never fails to satisfy both the tummy and the tastebuds, as far as I’m concerned. If you are a budding cook, knowing this recipe is definitely a must! Of course, you don’t have to stick to one version. Try:

Spaghetti is not all about bolognese, though. Here are other spaghetti recipes that will make you realize just how much you shouldn’t take this pasta for granted!

Pizza Crust Fantastico

Pizza Crust Fantastico

Nothing much can be said about pizza except that it present so many possibilities. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack – pizza is always a good idea! If truth be told, when it comes to pizza, I almost always order for it. If, however, you love good pizza and you want to make your own, you ought to know that success starts with the crust. Hence, you have to find out the best way to make the crust that will seal your reputation as a pizza maker. Why don’t you start with this? Pizza Crust Fantastico. The name alone ought to give you an idea. ;) Another easy option: Thin Crust Pizza Dough.

One of the classic pizzas that always go down well with me is Pizza Margherita. There is something about the simplicity of the combination of ingredients that makes you satisfied without getting the too full feeling.

This list, of course, is not all that Italy has to offer in terms of food. However, I do believe that if you can make these items any time you want to, then you are all set.

If you were to make your own list of the best of Italian food, what would you add/remove?
