Treats for Mom on Mother’s Day

Mother's Day Food
In four days, the whole world will be paying tribute to one of the most – if not THE most – important persons in everyone’s lives: moms. Being a mom is perhaps the most difficult jobs, and yet it is the most rewarding as well. How can raising a baby to become an adult not be fulfilling? Yet we can’t deny that moms are often taken for granted, if only because we know that no matter what happens, mom will be there to help us clean the messes we make. So on Mother’s Day, why don’t you take the time to give a little something back to the person who gave you (or your kids) life?

Did you know that Mother’s Day is currently one of the most expensive holidays? At this time of the year, people willingly spend more money to show their moms that they are appreciated. Then again, you don’t really need to pay an arm and a leg to show your mother that you love her. You can always go for the usual flowers, spa days, and so on, but statistics show that mothers appreciate a labor of love more than anything else. And what better way to show this by preparing treats for her the entire day?

While there are no special or particular food items that are served on Mother’s Day, you can always go for what you know your mom likes to eat. For a change, you can spend the time in the kitchen and have mom put up her legs. In preparation for Mother’s Day 2011 – May 8 – here are some ideas for treats that will make mom happy.

Breakfast Ideas

Breakfast is usually a hectic time for mothers. This is especially true if they have kids that are of schooling age. Moms then have to wake up early to prepare breakfast for everyone in the family. Whether or not mom has to go to work or stay at home, this time of the day is always a busy one. On Mother’s Day, give mom a break and prepare breakfast for her. Whether it’s served in bed or at the breakfast table, these breakfast treats will delight.

Pancakes and Waffles

Coffee PancakesPancakes and waffles are always great for breakfast. How many times has your mom made you a huge stack of pancakes dripping with syrup and melted butter? How many times have you woken up to a plate filled with freshly-made waffles that are crunchy on the outside? On Mother’s Day, why don’t you go ahead and make a huge batch of pancakes and/or waffles that will give mom the energy to enjoy the whole day?

If mom is a coffee lover, then this Coffee Pancakes with Breakfast Fruits recipe is a good choice. Buttermilk Pecan Pancakes are sure to make mom want for more. You better make a lot, though, as the rest of the family will probably ask for some as well! And for the chocolate lover, nothing less than Double Chocolate Pancakes will do.

Here are other recipes for pancakes and waffles that you can choose from.

Eggs a la PalomaEggs have been eaten by mankind since forever, and no wonder – these unassuming things are tasty and filling, not to mention nutritious. Eggs contain high amounts of protein and choline, as well as vitamins A, D, and E.

The best thing to do with eggs on Mother’s Day is to make them the way mom likes her eggs. Alternatively, you can surprise her with something totally new, like Eggs a la Paloma. This dish has a Spanish flavor and uses spices like cumin and oregano. It also uses chorizo. Definitely a treat worthy of mom!

Other things you can do with eggs for breakfast:

Now breakfast isn’t complete without coffee, tea, fruit juice, or a combination of the three. Don’t forget to include one drink with your breakfast treat!

Mom's Chocolate Pound CakeWhatever you end up serving for lunch or dinner on Mother’s Day, you need to have dessert! Again, the possibilities for dessert are endless, but here’s a classic that will never go wrong: Mom’s Chocolate Pound Cake.
